About

David fox is an emerging Irish artist specailising in paint.

Born in 1987, David has been painting since a young age and graduated from GMIT, where he studied for his BA in Fine Art in 2011. Currently he is based in belfast where he is studying for an MFA (Masters in Fine Art), at the Universtiy of Ulster.

Early works by David were solely based on the medium of painting, making paintings based on the aesthetic values of paint application. His subject matter motivated by photographs exploring the world of leisure.

- ‘I want capture the new world of recreation- as well as enjoying a great deal of it myself’

In more recent work, David has been exploring a relationship between two of arts most tradition genres- painting and sculpture. Making paintings of objects and spaces, with the object present in the space, therefore creating an installation.To deal with such characteristics in the work, he decided to introduce the concept of mirroring.

Mirroring is also a duplicate representation of an object, but the representation recorded by a mirror is opposite to the object as is. The main reason for exploring the concept of mirroring, is that it was discovered that when making paintings that mirror a space as opposed to just painting the space, mirroring the space creates a direct link to what is represented in the paintings and it therefore enhances the connection, making the space, objects and painting become one complete artwork, thus an installation.
